Unexpected bond
When Kyzir White first enrolled at Lackawanna he expected to room with his older brother Ka'Raun. But what he found was a new roommate that would eventually become one of his best friends.

That roommate was West Virginia native Trevon Wesco and it didn't take long for the two to bond over their mutual ties to the Mountaineer football program.
For White, it was his older brother Kevin, who was well on his way to becoming a first-round draft pick for the Chicago Bears while Wesco had played his high school ball inside the state borders and had always dreamt of playing for the Mountaineers since childhood.
Little did either know at the time, but both had been at multiple West Virginia games over the past couple seasons without any knowledge that the other was in attendance. Fate?
"He came in and we met. He told me he was from West Virginia so I figured he was a West Virginia fan," White said. "He started talking about West Virginia and he said 'oh you're Kevin White's brother'?"
That conversation started a friendship that has become what both consider "close," as the two have bought into the coaching during their time in junior college to develop into high division one prospects.
And while they didn't know it at the time, that bond would transcend their time at Lackawanna with both recently offering verbal commitments to the West Virginia football program.
Wesco, a former two-sport star at Musselman High School, has transformed from a wide receiver to a highly regarded tight end prospect during his time at Lackawanna. That led to scholarship offers from West Virginia, Central Florida, Buffalo and Akron, among others.
Still once the Mountaineers entered the picture the in-state native only needed an unofficial visit to end his recruitment and follow through on his lifelong dream. For West Virginia, Wesco gives them a much-needed vertical threat at the tight end position to occupy the middle of the field and a big-body that also isn't afraid to get dirty in the trenches and block.
"Both of our dreams were to play big time football. So I committed to West Virginia but we told each other we weren't going to commit somewhere just because of one another," Wesco said. "It was all about what fit us best individually."
White, on the other hand, was tied to the program in large part because of his older brothers Kevin and Ka'Raun each committing to become Mountaineers. While many had pegged him to eventually follow in their footsteps he was stead-fast in blazing his own path and making a decision that best suited his own personal needs regardless where that might be.
Coincidentally given his relationship with the coaching staff and the opportunity to see the field early in his career at the SPUR positon the Mountaineers quickly became that clear-cut option for him.
Like Wesco, White only needed an unofficial visit to see everything for himself before he also was ready to offer his pledge to the football program bypassing offers from Arizona State, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Illinois and several others in the process.
"With West Virginia I feel real comfortable with all the coaches. I have a relationship with a lot of them. Coach Galloway I'm the closest with him … and it just feels like home up there," White said.
Two teammates, two different paths that led to the same place. But there is still a junior college season to play and both plan to continue their on the field competition which was at an all-time high during the spring when the two battled often.
"It definitely gets intense in practice when we go against each other. When he makes a play he may look at me and then if I make a play I stare at him," Wesco said. "We're definitely competitive, trust me."
Ask both of them and you're going to get the same response that the battles are about 50-50 in favor of each and it's something that they hope to continue once they leave for Morgantown next May.
And while it wasn't planned for the two to travel the same road, you're not going to hear any complaints either.
"That's just how it went and now we're the best of friends," White said.
