Brooklyn (N.Y.) Erasmus Hall 2025 wide receiver Lyrick Samuel is excited to learn more about West Virginia after the Mountaineers jumped into the picture this winter.

Samuel, 6-foot-4, 185-pounds, had been talking with wide receivers coach Bilal Marshall but the program dished out a scholarship offer after the assistant stopped his school during the contact period.

“He explained that they want to throw the football,” he said.

The Rivals.com three-star prospect was excited to add West Virginia to his list because while he is still sorting out things about the program he has watched them before. He was able to see them against Penn State this past season and other times throughout the year.

“I think the school has a lot of potential,” he said.

Samuel hasn’t been to West Virginia yet but is eyeballing that as a possibility as the process continues and he builds an even closer bond with the coaching staff.

West Virginia likes Samuel as a big outside wide receiver due to his frame and ability to go up and get the football. The decision to offer wasn’t all that difficult after seeing his tape after he finished with 27 catches for 693 yards and 11 touchdowns.

“He said my junior film was very good,” he said.

To date, Samuel has visited both Penn State and Rutgers multiple times but is looking into other stops in the coming weeks and months as he weighs all of his options.

Samuel is putting an emphasis on a program that is going to throw the football and will develop him on and off the field to prepare him for the next level.

“And I need to feel safe at the school,” he said.
