Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney 2026 athlete Laron Dues had been to West Virginia multiple times but his weekend official visit to campus was different in a good way.

Dues, 5-foot-9, 178-pounds, felt as if he was a priority from the time he arrived on campus which really stuck out to him despite the fact he had seen so much of what the program had to offer in past trips.

“I felt like more of a priority, and I got to get around and see the every day life,” he said. “The highlight for me was really the meeting I had with Coach Rich Rod.”

The former in-state prospect received a clear message from the coaching staff during his time on campus and it was that they felt he could play a major role in Morgantown at potentially multiple positions.

“They want me, and they think I can make a big impact. They see me as an athlete like a Pac-Man Jones,” he said.

Dues is coming off a standout season at Cardinal Mooney where he recorded 81 tackles, 5 interceptions, 25 pass breakups, 7 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

Dues spent the majority of his time with safeties coach Gabe Franklin but was impressed with being around all of the coaches and they made him feel at home throughout the trip.

“It felt like family,” he said.

This experience certainly helped West Virginia overall but he still has visits set to both Indiana and USF at this stage of his recruitment.

He plans to commit at the end of the month.

“I’m at the point of my recruitment where I have an idea of where I’m going,” he said.
