Birmingham (Ala.) Woodlawn 2026 defensive back KeJiaun Johnson is an intriguing prospect for many different reasons.
Johnson, 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, is coming off a season where he recorded 68 tackles, 9 tackles for loss and a pair of interceptions and has the versatility to play either safety or cornerback.
Cornerbacks coach Rod West made contact with Johnson and he let the versatile defensive back know that the Mountaineers were jumping in with a scholarship offer.
“I was excited. I know guys like Tavon Austin and Pat White played there. Coach (Rich) Rodriguez was just hired from Jax State, which is in my home state,” he said.
The Rivals.com three-star prospect caught the eyes of West due to his speed, physicality, and versatility in the defensive backfield and now he is looking forward to developing a relationship.
At this stage, Johnson wants to visit Morgantown at some point in the spring but admitted that it might not occur until at some point in the summer.
West Virginia joins a list of schools that have offered, including Mississippi, South Carolina, Memphis and a number of others at this junction of the process.
Johnson has an idea of what he wants to eventually find in a football program with a history of strong coaching and development at the forefront, along with top-notch facilities.
“Great S&C, training and nutritional staff,” he said.
He plans to major in either marketing or sports management.
