2026 WR Jacob Butler impressed with West Virginia experience, offer

Brookville (N.Y.) Long Island Lutheran 2026 wide receiver Jacob Butler had a feeling coming into his camp stop at West Virginia that if he performed well good news could be on the horizon.

Turns out the premonition turned out to be correct.

Butler, 5-foot-9, 154-pounds, earned a scholarship offer after meeting with wide receivers coach Bilal Marshall and head coach Neal Brown at the conclusion of the one-day event.

“After hearing the news, I was grateful that they recognized my abilities with an offer,” he said.

During the course of the visit, Butler spent time working with Marshall as a wide receiver but also got to know a number of the other coaches including offensive coordinator Chad Scott and defensive line coach AJ Jackson. And the head man even gave his thoughts on his performance.

“He told me he was impressed with how I performed in camp,” he said.

Butler is coming off a season where he recorded 702 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns as a sophomore and during the course of the camp was able to get to know Marshall better as a coach. The assistant made it clear what he wanted to find in his wide receivers and the coaching staff liked him both inside and outside.

“They like that I am a complete receiver with big play ability,” he said.

While Butler didn’t get to tour too much of the campus on the visit, he was impressed with what he saw.

“I was impressed by the facilities I saw after the camp. I think that they have everything they need to continue to be a successful program,” he said.

Butler isn’t sure where he will be visiting next, but he does want to try to get out to several other places in order to see what they have to offer as well.

When it comes to West Virginia, Butler plans to return this fall for another visit likely for the Penn State game to take in what a game-day environment is like.

“That one is going to be really exciting,” he said.
