Cincinnati (Oh.) Taft 2027 offensive lineman Kalel Johnson is already attracting offers from a number of power four programs and West Virginia is one of those now involved.

Johnson, 6-foot-8, 281-pounds, spoke with the coaching staff on the phone for the first time when assistant offensive line coach Derek Dressler reached out to him.

That led to a scholarship offer from the Mountaineers and while it’s early in the process, he is familiar with the football program.

“I follow the Big 12,” he said.

Johnson spoke with Dressler about making it to campus for a visit in order to see it for himself which both parties are excited about making happen.

“Coach is ready for me to come visit and I can’t wait,” he said.

The Mountaineers are targeting Johnson as a right tackle and Dressler made it crystal clear that the coaching staff is very impressed with what they’ve seen on film.

On top of West Virginia, Johnson has added scholarship offers from Ohio State, Missouri, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Louisville, Kentucky, Maryland, Vanderbilt and a number of others.

On top of West Virginia, Johnson also plans on visiting Tennessee, Penn State, Michigan and several others.

“I just have to make sure it doesn’t interfere with my team’s practice,” he said.

Johnson isn’t in any hurry when it comes to his recruitment at this stage and wants to find a place that feels like home as well as where the coaching staff cares about him off the field as much as on it.

“Somewhere I can really thrive into the man I want to become,” he said.
