Wagner transfer tight end Justin Wolf is looking at all of his options.
After spending four seasons at the FCS program, Wagner entered the transfer portal during the first window and has been in contact with quarterbacks coach Tyler Allen since December.
The two have spoken on the phone several times getting to know each other but things have picked up of late.
“We’ve talked about many opportunities and contributions that I would have if I came to WVU,” he said. “As a tight end I would have a huge contribution in their offense and they are looking for depth.”
The Mountaineers have said that Wolf would have an opportunity to compete for immediate playing time given his overall experience. Over his 21 games for the Seahawks, Wolf has hauled in 7 catches for 55 yards and a touchdown as primarily a blocking option.
Wolf also could play a role on special teams.
“I am confident enough to say that I am extremely consistent with my blocking and receiving,” Wolf said. “I have been able to develop as a blocker throughout my four years of college as I was mostly a receiver in high school. I see myself as an explosive athlete.”
Wolf would have two years of eligibility remaining and is looking for a program where he can fit in and make an impact in a variety of ways. The plan would be for him to arrive at the school he selects in the summer after he graduates in May to close out his career.
West Virginia is far from the only option for Wolf who also has been given preferred walk on opportunities by Kansas State, California, Syracuse, Tulane, Temple and Central Michigan. The plan for now is for Wolf to visit West Virginia, Kansas State, California and Syracuse throughout the spring.
Those visits will be key as Wolf wants to see if each of those schools offer the right feel and the environment he is looking for at the college level.
“I already know West Virginia is a close community who supports one another with an amazing fan base that is nothing like anywhere else,” he said.
