Since the beginning of April, there has been a lot of movement both in and out of the transfer portal for West Virginia.

WVSports.com looks at who has transferred to WVU and how that affects the position rooms on offense.

As a whole, West Virginia lost 15 guys on the offensive side of the football to the transfer portal. Since then, the Mountaineers have added eight guys on that side of the ball.

Offensive Line

West Virginia lost three guys up front on the o-line to the transfer portal in the spring window. They then went out and added Mickel Clay, Josh Aisosa, and Malik Agbo.

This brings WVU's total number of offensive linemen to 19 total guys, with there being a lot of experience in the group as well.

WVU lost a freshman and a pair of redshirt-freshmen to the transfer portal, and replaced them with a senior, a junior, and a redshirt-freshman.

Clay is a senior, Agbo is a junior, and Aisosa is a redshirt freshman. With these additions, West Virginia now has seven guys on their offensive line who are juniors or seniors, but they also still have lots of youth with nine combined freshmen and redshirt-freshmen.

Walter Young Bear, Kimo Makane'ole, Ty'Kieast Crawford, and Clay, are all four seniors and they are all. transfers. Out of the juniors, Xavier Bausley and Landen Livingston are returners, however, Bausley played for head coach Rich Rodriguez when he was at Jacksonville State.

Aisosa joins four other redshirt-freshmen, including Robby Martin, Andreas Hunter, Raymond Kovalesky, and Griffin Fogle.

Running Back

West Virginia lost three running backs to the transfer portal and picked up one in the spring transfer period.

The Mountaineers lost senior LJ Turner, redshirt-freshman Trae'Von Dunbar, and redshirt-sophomore Judah Price. WVU picked up running back Jaylan Knighton, a senior from SMU.

Knighton had just 12 carries in just three games in 2024, but he had 745 yards and seven touchdowns the year prior.

With the addition of Knighton, WVU's running back room has a lot of experience in it. Knighton and Tye Edwards are both seniors, while Jahiem White is a junior, and Clay Ash is a sophomore.

The trio of Knighton, Edwards, and White brings a lot of college football snaps to Rodriguez's offense in 2025.

Wide Receiver

West Virginia lost five wide receivers following spring practice, however, none were older than a redshirt-sophomore, while three were redshirt-freshmen.

In their place, the Mountaineers added Christian Hamilton, Justin Smith-Brown, and Jordan McCants out of the portal. Hamilton is a sophomore, McCants is a junior, and Smith-Brown is a senior.

Out of those three, Smith-Brown is the most proven option. He comes from South Carolina State, where he had 81 catches for 1,196 yards and seven touchdowns in three seasons. This past year, he had 54 catches for 749 yards and four touchdowns. He's played over 1,300 snaps in his career. McCants did not have tons of on-field production, but he played in 12 games last season, while Hamilton caught seven passes for 159 yards and a score last season.

Currently, nine of WVU's 15 wide receivers are juniors or seniors, with four of them being returners from last season. Out of all position groups on offense, wide receiver has the most seniors with five.

Tight End

West Virginia lost three tight ends to the transfer portal, with the biggest one being sophomore Jack Sammarco, who transferred to Alabama.

WVU has added to the room, bringing in Grayson Barnes from Northern Illinois.

Barnes is a 6-foot-5, 225-pound option, catching over 50 passes for 760 yards and nine scores over the last two seasons.

With the addition of Barnes, WVU now has three seniors out of its five tight ends on the roster. Barnes joins Gregory Genross and Jacob Barrick.

The other two guys in the room are junior Colin McBee and sophomore Noah Braham.
