Fairmont (W.Va.) Fairmont Senior 2025 quarterback Brody Whitehair performed well in the West Virginia 7-on-7 camp this summer and was rewarded with a preferred walk-on opportunity.
Whitehair, 6-foot-1, 182-pounds, led the Polar Bears to the camp's championship game and while they came up short he caught the attention of the Mountaineer staff.
“I was surprised by it because it was just between a game when we talked. Then after we had a deeper talk about the opportunity,” he said
Quarterbacks coach Tyler Allen served as front man for Whitehair’s time on campus and he also was able to meet with some of the other recruiting personnel. It was Allen who spoke to Whitehair early on in the day and was impressed with his overall skill set and later extended the offer.
“They were really genuine and knowledgeable,” he said.
The opportunity is one that certainly has the attention of Whitehair considering that he grew up just down the road and has been around the West Virginia program for a long time.
“It’s always been a dream to represent the state,” he said.
Whitehair has already taken several other trips to schools such as Shepherd and Cal (Pa.) but plans to return to Morgantown for another look as the process proceeds.
“The coaches talked about coming back down during the season for a game day visit,” he said.
