Loe latest commitment for WVU

Loe has committed to West Virginia.

West Virginia added another valuable piece to its future secondary Friday when Johnstown (Pa.) cornerback Exree Loe announced his commitment to the Mountaineers.

Loe, 6-foot, 171-pounds, had narrowed his list of offers down to West Virginia and Maryland before selecting the Mountaineers prior to the start of his senior football season. He also held offers from Pittsburgh, Louisville, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Boston College and several other programs.

The Rivals.com three-star prospect was initially committed to Pittsburgh but backed off that pledge in June in order to explore his options and see what other schools had to offer. West Virginia immediately moved into the forefront of the talented prospect’s recruitment due to how aggressive the Mountaineers were in their pursuit as well as his relationship with several members of the coaching staff.

Defensive coordinator Tony Gibson, safeties coach Matt Caponi and cornerbacks coach Blue Adams all played a role in the recruitment of the versatile defensive back and he made a connection with each over the course of the process.

Loe has visited Morgantown on multiple occasions, including most recently for the Showtime Event in late July and that experience is what helped propel the Mountaineers to the front of his recuitment.

“I got to see the type of people they are beyond coaching. That stood out the most,” Loe said.

The opportunity to see the field early in his career at several possible spots also aided in the cause for the Mountaineers recruiting efforts.

Loe has the ability to play cornerback or safety at the next level showing the ability to cover on an island as well as play physical in run support. He finished last season with over 40 tackles and an interception to his credit.

Overall, Loe becomes the 14th commitment for West Virginia in the 2017 recruiting class and the seventh defensive back for the Mountaineers in this cycle with many showing the ability to fill multiple roles.

WVSports.com will have more with Loe in the near future.
