Maiden next up to pledge to WVU

Maiden has committed to West Virginia.

West Virginia added a second commitment Wednesday when Riverside C.C. (Ca.) wide receiver Dominique Maiden selected the Mountaineers.

Maiden, 6-foot-6, 210-pounds, choose West Virginia over offers from UAB, Massachusetts and interest from a long list of schools including Iowa State. The junior college prospect took an official visit to West Virginia during the Dec. 2 weekend and was impressed with the coaching staff and campus.

The Mountaineers initially offered Maiden during the second bye week of the season, when wide receivers coach Tyron Carrier made the trek out to California to scout him in person. That thrust Maiden onto the radar at the wide receiver position.

Maiden was instantly drawn to the program due to the fact that they were his first power five offer as well as the success that the Mountaineers have had developing wide receivers over the years. With his size, Maiden provides West Virginia with a big-bodied target that can go up and get the football especially in the red zone.

“They are all excited for me to get up there and get to work. I picked WVU because it’s a great program where I can get my degree and somewhere I can become a great football player,” he said.

A native of Temecula, California, Maiden also took an official visit to UAB but ultimately decided on the Mountaineers due to his comfort level with the program.

"After my visit to UAB, I weighed out the pros and cons and then made my decision. I talked with coach Carrier," he said.

A January enrollee, Maiden will have three years to play two when he arrives in Morgantown and will be eligible to participate in spring practice. He is slotted to play both the outside and inside wide receiver spots at West Virginia.

Maiden finished this past season with 36 catches for 480 yards and 8 touchdowns. The junior college prospect is rated as a three-star by Rivals.com.

Maiden is the 19th commitment for West Virginia and the second true wide receiver behind Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Mike Harley.

WVSports.com will have more with Maiden in the near future.
