West Florida transfer cornerback Ty Crutcher came into his official visit to West Virginia with high hopes. He left Morgantown committed to the football program.

Crutcher, 5-foot-10, 175-pounds, is coming off one season with the Argonauts, where he recorded 13 tackles, 4 passes defended and an interception after two years at the junior college level.

But at West Virginia, Crutcher found a place that he can call home.

“I believe Coach (Rich) Rodriguez and I felt it was a big opportunity,” he said.

Crutcher gave the coaching staff the news when he was in Rodriguez’s office with his family when the head coach asked him if he wanted to be a Mountaineer and he simply replied with “let’s do it.”

After that, Rodriguez informed the rest of the coaches and they played Country Roads.

The message from the coaching staff was that Crutcher can come in and compete for a role and they were impressed with his overall skill set.

“They think I'm a fast twitchy player with a hard competitive edge,” he said.

Crutcher was impressed with his time on campus largely due to the town and how much the people within it love football and treat the players.

As far as the defensive scheme, Crutcher likes that coordinator Zac Alley is a smart coach and he should be able to utilize him in many different ways at cornerback or in the slot.

“Making plays on the ball,” he said.

Crutcher has at least one season of eligibility remaining and is excited for the next chapter of his story.

“Let’s go Mountaineers!” he said.
