West Virginia has helped to add to the future offensive front with a commitment from Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep 2026 offensive lineman Rhett Morris.
Morris, 6-foot-3, 305-pounds, picked the Mountaineers over scholarship offers from Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Boston College, Massachusetts, James Madison and Old Dominion among others.
The Rivals.com three-star prospect was initially committed to Wake Forest for a little over a month but then elected to back off that pledge and reopen his recruitment.
That led the new Mountaineers coaching staff welcoming him to campus for a spring visit and then setting up an official visit for this past weekend.
Offensive line coach Jack Bicknell also stopped by to see Morris during the evaluation period and served as the lead recruiter for the Garden State product.
Morris is being targeted as an interior offensive lineman and is the first in the 2026 class.
WVSports.com breaks down the commitment of Morris and what it means to the West Virginia Mountaineers football program both now and in the future.
Skill set:
Morris is a good fit inside as he is physical and plays with a good motor. He uses his hands well and drives opposition in the run game, while showcasing good feet and hands in pass protection. One thing that is evident on film is that Morris understands his strengths and consistently plays to the whistle.
Moves well for his size and is always seeking contact to clear open lanes in the run game but is equipped in pass blocking to take on those in front of him. Displays the ability to move bigger bodies showcasing his strength and has good length for an interior offensive lineman as well.
A versatile option, Morris displays the ability to help in multiple spots only adding to his value at the next level.
Fitting the program:
The offensive line is an area that needs to be restocked for the future with five set to graduate at the end of this upcoming season and four more the season after that. The numbers are healthy in the room currently but considering that much turnover is on the horizon it’s no surprise that the coaching staff is attacking the position aggressively in their first full recruiting class.
Morris is an interior lineman with the ability to play guard or center, which provides some flexibility for him when it comes to a pathway to see the field as he develops.
Morris has been to Morgantown on multiple occasions under both the current and the former coaching staff since his recruiting process got underway. There is a clear comfort level there and that was only further reinforced by a productive official visit to campus.
Don Bosco has long been a hotbed for talent and West Virginia getting into the school with a commitment from a player with multiple power four offers is certainly a positive development. The Garden State falls safely within that radius that head coach Rich Rodriguez has discussed a lot that the program needs to be able to successfully recruit and adding Morris is a good step there.
Recruiting the position:
West Virginia brought in a number of offensive linemen on the first summer official visit weekend and that should only continue moving forward as the coaching staff looks to fill the position. The coaching staff is going to need able bodies at both interior spots and at tackle so even with Morris in the fold the program is going to still need to add some more pieces to round things out.
