Somerville (N.J.) 2025 athlete Joshua Rodriguez had a memorable junior day stop at West Virginia.
Rodriguez, 6-foot-2, 195-pounds, was highly impressed with what he saw during the course of the event even going as far as calling it the best visit that he’s been on to date.
“What stood out the most to me was how real the coaches were. It was my first trip there and definitely the best visit I’ve been on,” Rodriguez said.
But that experience was made even better when he received word that the Mountaineers were extending a scholarship offer from wide receivers coach Bilal Marshall. The assistant made an impression on Rodriguez because he was so up-front with him and laid out how he could fit in the scheme.
“I was so hype because he is such a great person and I can definitely see myself playing for him,” he said.
West Virginia is targeting Rodriguez as an outside wide receiver and the coaching staff is impressed not only with his route running but his ability to high-point the football and his strong hands.
The Rivals.com three-star prospect definitely plans to come back for another visit to West Virginia for an up-close look this spring and is excited to learn even more about the school.
“There’s no way I’m not coming back here,” he said.
On top of West Virginia, Rodriguez also plans to check out Michigan State, Georgia Tech, Boston College and Toledo but admits that the Mountaineers made a strong impression on him.
“My favorite is West Virginia for sure,” he said.
Rodriguez plans to base his eventual decision around the school that provides the best family environment and the connection that the players have with the coaches.
There is no timeline for when a decision could be made, but Rodriguez is excited for what’s next.
