Brandon (Miss.) 2026 defensive back Preston Ashley was excited to learn about his offer from West Virginia but now is wanting to find out more about the program.
Ashley, 6-foot-0, 172-pounds, received the news when he spoke with cornerbacks coach Rod West.
“Coach West is my guy. I was super happy,” he said.
The Rivals.com four-star prospect is rated as the No. 225th best player in the nation and while he doesn’t know a whole lot about the Mountaineers yet he does have a connection of sorts.
“I know a little bit about the school. My homeboy Chris Henry’s dad went there,” he said.
The Mountaineers joined a list of schools that includes Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and many more.
West Virginia is targeting Ashley as a nickel or corner in their defensive scheme and he is coming off a season where he recorded 70 tackles, a sack and several forced fumbles. The coaching staff is impressed not only with his size, but how he plays the game.
“How smart and aggressive I am,” he said.
The plan for Ashley is to try to make it to Morgantown for a visit but at this stage he isn’t sure when that trip will occur.
“I’m trying to get a visit for sure,” he said.
Ashley ultimately wants to find a school where he is comfortable and believes he can best be developed over the course of his college career.
