Sometimes the best gifts are those that come unexpected and for McMurray (Pa.) Peter's Township 2026 athlete Reston Lehman that’s exactly what unfolded with his offer from West Virginia.
Lehman, 6-foot-4, 230–pounds, found out about the opportunity after a conversation with outside linebackers coach Victor Cabral and the news caught him completely off guard.
“I was shocked when Coach Cabral told me the news. I wasn’t expecting it at all,” he said.
The Mountaineers join Pittsburgh in schools that have recently offered and Cabral was able to tell Lehman a little about the program and the success the school has had over the years.
“The West Virginia offer is an awesome opportunity. I think they run a great program there and especially a good defense and they get players drafted,” he said.
That certainly has his attention at this stage of things, but the plan is for him to see it for himself when he makes the trek down for the Iowa State game.
He hopes to get a look at everything the program has to offer as well as learn more about Cabral and the plans that he would have for him.
“He told me a lot of great things about the program and I cannot wait to learn more about it and build a relationship with Coach Cabral,” he said.
West Virginia is targeting Lehman as an outside linebacker with the coaching staff being impressed with his ability to play with physicality off the edge as well as his speed.
“I mainly rush but can also play run fits and pass drop,” he said.
On top of West Virginia, Lehman plans to visit a number of other schools but is still putting together a list of all of the programs that he wants to see.
Lehman is hoping to eventually find a school where they have the right combination of education, the coaching staff in place and the facilities that they offer.
