The West Virginia Mountaineers football program has landed a major commitment from Kingston (Ga.) Cass 2026 Rivals250 quarterback Brodie McWhorter.

McWhorter, 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, is the 137th ranked player nationally in the 2026 class and picked the Mountaineers over a long list of scholarship offers. Among those were Auburn, North Carolina, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State, Florida, Oregon, Nebraska, Arkansas, Michigan State, Mississippi State and more.

McWhorter is ranked as the nation’s ninth best quarterback in the 2026 class.

Quarterbacks coach Tyler Allen served as the lead recruiter for McWhorter and developed a close relationship with him that was critical in his decision-making process. The Mountaineers made McWhorter a priority from the first time they jumped in the picture with an offer in January of 2024.

The Rivals.com four-star prospect took multiple visits to West Virginia including most recently for a multi-day campus stop in order to get a more in-depth look at the program in mid-June. The trip also gave him an opportunity to sit down and spend more time with head coach Neal Brown.

“It was a great visit. I have a great connection with the coaching staff there. It was different this time because I got more one-on-one time with Coach Brown,” he said.

The trip also answered all of his questions giving him all he needed to cast his lot with the Mountaineers.

“They said they need me because I can be a difference maker who helps build the class early and brings championships to Morgantown,” he said.

A dynamic signal caller, McWhorter has plus arm talent and also plays with a calm demeanor on the field and has a passion for the game. As a sophomore, McWhorter threw for 2,128 yards and 20 touchdowns while completing 64-percent of his passes. He also rushed for 530 yards and 5 more scores showcasing his ability as a dual threat option under center for the Mountaineers.

West Virginia is impressed with his overall athleticism as well as how the ball fires out of his hand. The coaching staff made it clear that his skill set would be an ideal match for what the Mountaineers are doing at the quarterback spot especially with how the coaches developed Garrett Greene.

McWhorter becomes the second commitment in the 2026 recruiting class for the Mountaineers behind Aliquippa (Pa.) 2026 linebacker Daiveon Taylor.

WVSports.com will have more with McWhorter in the near future.
