The West Virginia football program has landed another key piece out of the transfer portal with a commitment from Northern Illinois tight end Grayson Barnes.

Barnes, 6-foot-5, 225-pounds, spent two seasons with the Huskies and was productive in both. During the 2023 campaign, Barnes had 23 catches for 422 receiving yards and five touchdowns with his 18.3 yards per catch leading the team along with the touchdown grabs.

Last season Barnes was second on the team with 31 catches and led the Huskies with four touchdowns while also finishing with 338 receiving yards.

Barnes spent two seasons prior to that at American River College where he was an all-American in 2022 and was first-team all-conference in both years. During that time he hauled in 38 passes for 526 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2022 and 23 catches for 381 yards and a score in 2021.

Tight ends coach Michael Nysewander served as the lead recruiter for Barnes.

The California native gives the Mountaineers a valuable addition in the tight end room.

Barnes has one season of eligibility remaining.

WVSports.com will have more with Barnes in the near future.
