West Virginia addressed a position of need with a pair of commitments Tuesday in pledges from Thatcher (Az.) Eastern Arizona J.C. brothers offensive guard Mike Brown and offensive guard Joe Brown.
The two visited West Virginia over the weekend and left impressed with the Mountaineers and then decided that they had found their fit at the college level by offering their verbal commitment.
Joe Brown, 6-foot-4, 330-pounds, originally signed with Miami out of high school but then left the program to look at a number of options. After the visit to West Virginia, Brown left highly impressed with the campus and then made the call to end his recruitment.
He will have one year left at the college level and is slated to play left guard in Morgantown.
“I felt like given the time period I have left to play football at this level the best decision for me would be to go to West Virginia because I believe they can help me develop into the player I need to be,” he said.
Mike Brown, 6-foot-5, 330-pounds, was previously committed to Kansas but elected to flip his pledge to the Mountaineers after an official visit over the weekend. He is expected to fill a role at right guard as the Mountaineers look to fill their needs on the interior of the offensive line.
"I decided to take the same path as my brother towards WVU because they provide a system in which I too can strive to become the best me I can be. I feel being on the same side as my brother will help me develop quicker in a sense of football,” he said.
The pair informed not only head coach Dana Holgorsen but offensive line coach Joe Wickline, who served as the lead recruiter for the two.
“He was ready to roll,” he said.
Both brothers were impressed with their trip to campus especially the connection they formed with the coaches and the strength and conditioning program.
The two brothers address a major need for West Virginia on the interior of the offensive line and represent the 24th and 25th commitments of the 2018 class with 20 of those signing during the early period. Joe will have one year of eligibility remaining, while Mike will have three years to play two.
Both are expected to sign their letters of intent Feb. 7.
WVSports.com will have more with the Brown brothers in the near future.
