Nokesville (Va.) Patriot 2026 linebacker Mathieu Kanu has been building a bond with the West Virginia coaching staff and those efforts paid off with a scholarship offer from the program.
Kanu, 6-foot-3, 221-pounds, had been in contact with assistant linebackers coach Luke Nardo for around a month when he got news that the program was jumping into the mix.
“I was extremely happy and appreciative when I got it, building a bond week to week,” he said.
Kanu was able to get to know Nardo during those conversations as the assistant coach often spoke with him about his family and how his life is going as well as his plans.
West Virginia is recruiting Kanu as a linebacker and the coaching staff has been impressed with his physicality as well as how he is able to read plays at the position.
The talented 2026 prospect has been talking to the coaching staff about possibly making a visit and he has been planning other stops to programs including Penn State this coming weekend.
There is no set timeline for when he could make a college decision at this junction of the process and he understands that there is still a lot of time and options that are left to explore on the board.
“And the relationships I will gain through teams to come,” he said.
Kanu wants to find a place where he will get the right coaching staff that fits his needs as well as a good educational fit.
“And how they treat their players and develop them,” he said.
