Smyrna (De.) running back Leddie Brown has been a longtime top target for West Virginia and that pursuit paid off in a big way when the coaching staff secured his commitment Sunday evening.

Brown, 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, received his first offer from the Mountaineers and had been a constant visitor to campus making over a dozen trips in the past few seasons. Originally at Eastern Christian Academy, home of several former Mountaineers such as Wendell Smallwood, Daikiel Shorts and David Sills, Brown became a priority early.

The Rivals.com three-star prospect was most recently on campus for the Gold-Blue game in mid-April and once again enjoyed his stay.

During that visit he was able to sit down and meet new running backs coach Tony Dews and discuss the plan that the coaching staff laid out for him after his one-time lead recruiter JaJuan Seider departed for Florida in the winter.

That was enough to make a positive impression especially because he was also able to observe his coaching style in person during the course of the spring game.

“I like how he talks and he doesn’t let you slack,” Brown said.

Brown also collected offers from Florida, Tennessee, Louisville, Maryland, North Carolina and Rutgers to name a few while receiving interest from a number of others. Over the course of his recruitment he also established a strong bond with head coach Dana Holgorsen and felt like a priority for the coaches.

“Just the vibe I get from the coaches and how much they want me. I feel comfortable at West Virginia,” he said. “I have a good relationship with the whole coaching staff.”

In Brown, West Virginia gets a dynamic all-purpose running back that excels not only carry the football but catching it out of the backfield.

Overall Brown becomes the fourth commitment for West Virginia in the 2018 class and the first at the running back position. He represents the second pledge on the offensive side of the ball behind Oak Park (Il.) Fenwick tight end Mike O’Laughlin.

WVSports.com will have more with Brown in the near future.
