Zionsville (In.) 2027 offensive lineman Ben Maxey made the trek to compete in the first big-man camp of the summer at West Virginia and was impressed by the experience.
Maxey, 6-foot-4, 265-pounds, was able to work with the Mountaineers coaching staff in the camp setting and enjoyed the opportunity to learn from them.
“I liked all of the coaches. They were all very serious and knowledgeable,” he said.
Maxey was able to work with offensive line coach Jack Bicknell as well as assistant offensive line coach Derek Dressler and assistant offensive line coach Treylen Brown. Each of the coaches gave him not only positive feedback but constructive criticism on things he needs to fix.
“They seemed to have liked my build and mobility,” he said.
Over the course of the big man camp, Maxey spent time at both tackle and guard, showcasing what he was able to do in front of the coaching staff.
Maxey also was able to get a look at the facilities and saw many things that stood out to him.
“They have things I had never even heard of before and the weightroom was my favorite part,” he said. “The environment felt very serious and I felt that there was a good culture built around the team.”
Maxey has taken a number of visits including to Indiana, Ball State, Miami (Oh.) and plans on also camping at Iowa. But after the experience in Morgantown, he plans to make it back to the school.
“I do plan on making it back to West Virginia,” he said.
