West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez is keeping an open mind about the vacant running back coach on his staff.

The Mountaineers have been in the market for a replacement since former running backs coach Chad Scott took the same job at Texas.

But the show goes on and with no designated running backs coach in place for the start of spring practice there have been some adjustments with how it operates.

Senior offensive assistant Travis Trickett has been floating around to several different positions on offense, including running back, while assistant running backs coach Noel Devine also has taken on a larger role.

“So, we’re covered,” he said.

Trickett has coached in the offense before and is a sharp-minded assistant, so he has the ability to handle that role without any sort of disruptions with practice underway.

Across the staff, each of the coaches have been in the system before at some stop outside of inside wide receivers coach Blaine Stewart but he has learned quickly in his role. That means there isn’t a lot of required learning from the coaching scheme standpoint and the same can be said on the defensive side with so many having experience with Zac Alley.

Rodriguez hopes to have a new coach at the position named within a week, but right now it’s wide open.

“I have some guys in mind, and I’ll be able to find a good coach,” he said.
