West Virginia Mountaineers football program has sold over 16,000 season tickets.

West Virginia has sold over 16,000 season-ticket packages according to officials.

That total is an increase over the 13,200 that were sold once the priority deadline closed through mostly mail-ins, late renewals and new purchases, said Matt Wells, Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs for West Virginia.

That is a significant jump from the 7,000 that were sold leading up to the initial deadline.

Officials will be going through the normal process of follow-up calls with non-renewals in a second phase. This is a practice that exists even in a normal year, so it’s unrelated to the pandemic.

That is expected to take around a week or so and those at West Virginia continue to be flexible with season-ticket holders given all the unknowns related to any potential reduced capacity scenarios.

Last season’s total ended up at 25,673 in the first season under head coach Neal Brown but this year is obviously dealing with different circumstances.

This year the home slate features Oklahoma, Baylor, K-State, TCU, Kansas, Eastern Kentucky and border-rival Maryland. The home schedule opens Sept. 12 against Eastern Kentucky. The rest of the schedule is Sept. 19 against Maryland, Sept. 26 against Kansas State, Oct. 10 against TCU, Oct. 24 against Kansas, Nov. 7 against Oklahoma and Nov. 21 against Baylor.

The cost for season tickets are $399 and include a donation.
